Decode Me's Origin Story

Decode Me is the brainchild of Kathleen Mazurek, an artist, designer and educator from Baltimore, Maryland.  Since 2008, her work has focused on using technology and media exploration as bridges for visual communication.  She is dual certified in art K-12/special education secondary and holds a Masters in Leadership in Teaching from Notre Dame of Maryland University.

She has developed and facilitated art and design education curriculum for elementary/middle school students through Kennedy Krieger Institute, Digital Harbor Foundation, Arts Every Day, Baltimore City Public Schools, Baltimore Office for Promotion and Arts and Art With a Heart.

Her work has been featured in Bmore Art and Technical.ly Baltimore.

After her team's first app, createAchimera, won the 2015 Baltimore Hackathon, she has been exploring how to use technology as a means to develop empathy and foster metacognition.
